Creamy Dill Pickle Gyro Salad Recipe

Sometimes, there’s nothing better than a gyro—fresh, flavorful meat slices combined with juicy chopped tomato, cucumbers, olives, and red onions, all wrapped into a warm pita wrap and smothered in tzatziki sauce. Except maybe when we make that tantalizing gyro vibe carb-free, and instead of bread, make a gyro salad by adding gyro meats and veggies to the nutrient-dense mix of crisp green leaf lettuce, cauliflower, kale, green and red cabbage found in our Creamy Dill Pickle Chopped Salad Kit.

Instead of tzatziki, this salad is drenched in a creamy, tangy dill pickle ranch dressing—with real pickle pieces. This kit even comes with dill pickle-seasoned brioche crouton crumbles, feta cheese, and dill pickle seasoning. We’re pretty sure that makes this gyro salad a new new hero salad.

Gyro to Hero

The beloved gyro sandwich originated in Greece. In proper Greek pronunciation, it’s pronounced “yee-roh”. Gyro slices are thin, flavorful shavings of specially seasoned, slow-roasted meat—typically lamb and beef, pork, or chicken. Fun fact: the word “gyro” means “turn” or “revolution.” So the sandwich got its name by referring to the way the meat is cooked on a vertical rotisserie that slowly turns.

If we can be so bold as to draw another parallel, we think making a gyro salad is a sort of revolution. While delectable gyro meat gets sliced from a large vertical spit or baked loaf, and usually placed inside pita bread or served atop rice, why not place gyro meat slices on top of a salad? The sumptuous texture of the gyro meat, combined with crispy greens and flavorful toppings, seems like the perfect way to enjoy a global favorite.
