Frequently asked questions

Romaine hearts are low in calories on their own. Romaine Hearts have 15 calories per serving, with about 3 servings per container.

  1. Remove damaged outer leaves (there shouldn’t be any in your Taylor Farms package) and separate the leaves.
  2. Rinse under cold running water, focusing on the base where dirt can hide. You can also soak them for 1–2 minutes in cold water, then re-rinse.
  3. Dry thoroughly (spin or pat with towels).

Here’s how to cut and prep your romaine hearts for salads.

  1. Rinse & dry the romaine.
  2. Trim the stem base (cut off about ½–1 inch).
  3. Slice lengthwise in half (or into quarters if you want smaller pieces).
  4.  Lay them cut-side down and slice crosswise into bite-size strips.

  1. Do not wash the romaine if you’re planning on storing it (moisture speeds up spoilage).
  2. Keep the whole romaine hearts in their original package, or you can remove them from the package and wrap them loosely in paper towels.
  3. Place in a vented produce bag or leave slightly open.
  4. Store in the crisper drawer of the fridge.

If you’ve already washed and/or cut your romaine, you can wrap the chopped romaine in paper towel and place it in an airtight container with a small air gap. Use within 3–5 days.
